If you are in the Colorado high country for the New Year, there
is no better place to be than Breckenridge! Whether you want rejoice over a
magnificent fireworks display, get your groove on, enjoy a nice romantic dinner
and champagne toast or just experience the famed Breckenridge night life, you
will be in the right place to ring in 2016! And what’s best about the whole
thing is if you have kids, Breckenridge is extremely family friendly for
activities for the entire family to enjoy.
New Year’s Eve With the
Kiddos
Head on over to the Beaver Run Ski and Snowboard School on Peak
9 at 5pm for the Glow Worm Parade. Similar to the Torchlight Parade (see below)
for adults, this mini version allows the kids to ski green-level terrain with
glow sticks to give the appearance of a glow worm. The only caveat to join this
snow-themed parade is the kids need to be able to stop and turn on green
terrain. Registration at 5pm and parade at 5:45pm.
New Year’s Eve Torchlight
Parade
The Breckenridge Ski & Snowboard School once again initiates
this annual tradition as they carry torches from the top of Peak 9, down
American to The Village in a torchlight parade. The parade starts at 6pm, so
grab a seat early for great views of the parade at the Maggie (at The Village)
or the Coppertop (at Beaver Run).
New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Following the Torchlight Parade, head back to the house or
condo, grab your evening attire and pick a spot around town to cozy up for the
fireworks display at 9pm. On a clear night, the display can be seen from most
everywhere around town, so don’t necessarily worry where you park your caboose.
New Year’s Eve Nightlife
If getting rowdy is your thing, join Summit County’s liveliest
dance party until the wee hours of the morning at Cecilia’s, and enjoy a
complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Other spots to enjoy are the Liquid
Lounge for DJs and dancing, Napper Tandy’s and Burke and Riley’s for an
authentic Irish get together, Brooklyn’s Billiards for a slower paced
adventure, the Gold Pan Saloon for a historical night and the MotherLoaded
Tavern for a more casual atmosphere. However, you really can’t go wrong with
finding your type of scene at just about any bar in town with drink/shot
specials and a midnight champagne toast.
New Year’s Eve Dinner
For a nice romantic New Year’s Eve dinner, Breckenridge offers a
variety of meal options. Check out establishments such as The Warming Hut, Blue
River Bistro, Relish, the Briar Rose and Hearthstone. Remember, however, even
though the menus may not be solidified, it is a good idea to make a reservation
beforehand … it’s never too early to get your spot.
