Breckenridge, Colorado offers something for everyone both on and off the ski mountain this spring. This Victorian-styled town is much more than just a resort; it is a community rich in culture, recreation, art, and history. With 18 museums and art galleries, clinics and classes of all types, and local events every single day on the town calendar, buying a Breckenridge home provides you a broad array of experiences you simply can't get anywhere else!
Visiting or living in Breckenridge means you get to explore the big events that tourist and ski towns offer as well as the community-driven ones that primarily only residents join in on:
For a fun, festival-style event, look no further than Breck Spring Fever. This month-long event runs from March 18th through closing day on April 23rd, and gets both the town and the mountain hopping! It is truly a "festival" with ski competitions, as well as events for non-skiers such as free concerts, the scrumptious chili cook off April 2nd, and the beer festival on April 8th. On Easter, ride the Quicksilver Super Chair at the base of Peak 9 for free to the Ten Mile Station at 6:00am to participate in a unique, high altitude sunrise service. Afterwards, the kids can search for Easter eggs on Peaks 8 and 9.
If you are seeking something truly local, check out the Spring Ice Skating Show at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. This evening will impress you! Local figure skaters who call Breckenridge their home training center, along with professional performers unite to produce a night of song and dance on ice. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased online or at the door on the day of the event, Saturday, March 25 at 7:00pm. You will be delighted by the choreography and talent, and will get to be part of promoting the hard work and dedication these young skaters have by letting them perform for you.
How about a walk through time to discover the history of Breckenridge? Join locals for a Ghost Town and Gold Mine Hike on March 3 at 10:00am. After meeting at the Breckenridge Golf Club Clubhouse, a local guide will lead you on a three-mile adventure to discover the hidden world of Preston, a ghost town established 130 years ago. This three-hour tour will give you a glimpse into the historic area, buildings, and mines. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance Welcome Center on South Main Street.
To see beautiful Breckenridge by moonlight, join in on the Full Moon Snowshoe Tour on March 10 from 6:00-8:00 pm. A $25 admission enables you see the forest in the silver light of the moon. The fee includes snowshoes and a light meal afterwards at the Gold Run Nordic Center Clubhouse. Search for your nocturnal animal neighbors and meet residents who love the forested trails of Colorado as much as you do.
Springtime in Breckenridge is just as exciting as the winter ski season. With the numerous clubs and group outings, you can get acquainted with this majestic area, as well as meet fellow Breckenridge residents and visitors.
