After a season of solid snowfall, residents of Summit County, as well as those in the know, are eagerly awaiting what can only be described as a truly awe-inspiring display with the blooming of the most spectacular wildflowers that are beginning to grace the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Many Summit County properties are located near slopes that are soon to be carpeted with an array of bright and multi-colored flowers of different varieties, the wildflower season is a wondrous and memorable show of beauty that is not to be missed!
Most Summit County real estate is privy to majestic views wildflowers, so we'd like to share a few of our favorite spots to enjoy some of the most awe-inspiring and picturesque scenes that will delight both residents and visitors alike.
For families and people of all ages, one of the most rewarding locations to see the wildflowers, is Tenderfoot Mountain. Located in Dillon, this spot is easy to get to from Highway 6. There are benches along the trail to rest and take in the amazing views of Lake Dillon as well as an enticing assortment of wildflowers along the trail including wild rose, larkspur and Colorado’s state flower, the beautiful columbine. The trail includes spectacular views of the Ten Mile Range as the backdrop for budding aspens, wild daisies, scarlet gilia, creamy buckwheat and more!
For a slightly more adventurous hike with some of the most stunning scenes of Summit County’s best wildflowers, travel along the Breckenridge Divide in the White River National Forest between Breckenridge and Highway 285. On this trail, you will see wild iris, paintbrush, heartless arnica, silvery lupine, and other lovely wildflowers. Follow the path which leads to the Boreas Pass Road Trail and if you are still eager to breathe in more of the crisp and fresh mountain air, continue to Glacier Peak for even more amazing views!
For serious hikers, no trip to Summit County would be complete without an excursion to the magnificent Angler Mountain Trail, which leads to the more strenuous Ptarmigan Trail. Located off the east side of Highway 9, this trail is an absolute gem for the nature lover. In mid-June you can take part in the Wildflower Photography Walk which offers a unique guided tour of some of the prettiest wildflowers in the area like the primrose, flax, larkspur, twin flower, arrowleaf, balsamroot, potentilla, and many more.
